I’ve been fascinated with mobiles ever since my college roommate put up an iridescent fish mobile in our dorm room.
When I was a new teacher in the 70s, I thought my classroom would look really cool with mobiles hanging from the light fixtures. (Disclaimer: teachers, lest I give you ideas, the fire marshall will probably not permit you to hang things in your room. It was a simpler time back then.)
Guess what? You can’t just take a few support bars and hang stuff from them with string and expect it’s going to look good. Physics comes into play. Your weight has to balance somehow. It’s a lot harder to make a successful mobile than you would think. I eventually bought a book, and I made one.
