Butterflies!

Butterflies!

Have you ever wondered how photographers get decent shots of butterflies?

I sure have. Butterflies flutter, and they flit from flower to flower. They don’t stay still long enough to get a good shot. I have a point-and-shoot camera with an incredibly sl-l-low shutter speed, and my photos tend to come out blurry.

I learned the secret to taking butterfly photos in March, when my brother visited from New Jersey, and my daughter and her husband invited us to accompany them to Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale. You just have to go somewhere where millions of flowers and millions of butterflies are contained in one location.

I’m sorry to admit I can’t identify these species.

Would I recommend Butterfly Wonderland? Absolutely. It’s way cooler than I ever expected.

The experience starts out with a 3-D movie about the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly (my brother’s first time seeing a 3-D movie). Did you know that only every third generation makes the Canada-to-Mexico migration? I didn’t.

Right next to Butterfly Wonderland, they are building OdySea Aquarium, opening soon.
