One day last May, my neighbor caught me outside with my camera. I confessed I was taking pictures of his pomegranates. 

“Are you putting them on your blog?” he asked.

“Yes.”

“I’ll be famous,” he said.

The pomegranate starts out as a red blossom.

See the bulbous section near the base of the bloom? That’s where the fruit will form and gradually ripen.

Unless it pops open prematurely and becomes a meal.
