Last Saturday I visited St. Anthony’s Greek Orthodox Monastery in Florence, Arizona. I’ll be posting more photos in the next ten days, but I’m thrilled to have several nice doors to post for the challenge this week.
The first is the fairly simple door to St. George’s Chapel.
This is what it looks like from the inside. How lovely the stained glass looks with the sun shining through. Notice there are two more doorways, with split doors open.
This is what the innermost doors look like.
Here is a closeup of the upper carving, showing St. George defeating the dragon.
This is the entrance to St. Demetrios’ Chapel.
Here is a closer photo of the sparkling mosaic over the door. Note also the dimensional brickwork surrounding the door.
