If we study our own history, we find that we have always been ready to receive the unfortunates from other countries, and though this may seem a generous gesture on our part, we have profited a thousand fold by what they have brought us.

Andrea, well said. First timer here. If you have not seen Ken Burns’ “The Roosevelts” documentary series, it is well worth it. After Eleanor Roosevelt led the US group to establish the United Nations insisting on human rights being a foundation, one Republican who went with the group said, “I take back every bad thing I ever said about Eleanor Roosevelt.” She also was FDR’s eyes and ears, since he could not venture out in public as much with a wheel chair. FDR knew he could count on Eleanor to tell him the truth as to what was happening. Keith

Thanks for the recommendation. I may have caught one episode by accident. I’ll have to watch the whole series. She was a remarkable woman.
