NaPoWriMo2021 Day Eighteen

Standard

Today’s prompt is to write a poem based on the title of one of the chapters from Susan G. Wooldridge’s poemcrazy: Freeing Your Life with Words. The chapter title I chose was “the poem bridge.”

I love poemcrazy. It is the book that proved to me that I can write poetry. I was so tempted to just pull something I wrote while working through this book and post it here–but that wouldn’t have been in keeping with NaPoWriMo’s spirit.

Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge by Claude Monet
Crossing the Bridge

words written long ago and far away
connect with me here and now
I feel what the poet felt
see what he saw
hear what he heard

I read and I experience
what moved him to tears
and I share the sorrow
I laugh out loud
at verses absurd

this person I never met
is my kin, my twin
I know him as intimately
as I know my own heart
he revealed me with his words
