NaPoWriMo Day 11

Standard

Today’s prompt is to write a poem about a very large thing.

Behemoth

your large eyes
reveal wisdom and warning
windows to your soul

your grand ears
flapping, undulating

your trunk
not merely an extended nose
but also a hand
reaching, grasping

your powerful feet
wield pounding pressure
making you the most dangerous animal in the zoo

your might has been harnessed
to transport lumber
as you lumber through the forest

you labor
faithful servant
accepting affection
but your wise eyes grow petulant
from unending demands
until you finally
crush your oppressor
beneath your log-shaped legs

  1. There is such kindness and maturity in an elephant’s eyes- it’s nice that you begin the poem with it and then talk about the ‘eyes growing petulant’ at the end and draw powerful, contrasting images.
