When machine-sewing a binding onto a quilt, do you stitch it along the edge of the top and then turn it to the back, or stitch it to the back and fold it over to the front? I stitch it to the front and hand-stitch it to the back, but in my blog reading this week, I’ve found quilters who do the opposite.
I stitch it to the front first because I want to be sure it looks good; by the time I’m blind-stitching it down, I just want to be done. What is the reasoning for starting on the back?
My reason for starting on the back is to do the whole binding by machine. I use a decorative stitch to sew it down on the front. I’m on vacation so don’t have my computer, so this comment may not look like me. But it is 😉

Oh! I like that idea. I almost never use the decorative stitches on my machine. I should try that.

Yes, I agree with Mary. If you start on the back and flip it over to the front, you can machine stitch it neatly (or decoratively), and the extra line of machine stitching on the back is not noticeable.

I tried to comment earlier but couldn’t get it to go thru. But now, everyone has responded the same way that I would!!

Isn’t it odd that you had trouble commenting on my blog? I have trouble commenting on yours–at least half the time the comment doesn’t go through. Is WordPress trying to keep us apart?

I thought the same thing!!! I couldn’t get it to work on my phone but it did fine on my computer.
