I am participating in two challenges this month, OctPoWriMo and Inktober. To make it easier on myself, I’m trying to write a new poem on odd-numbered days and make a drawing on even-numbered days.
Today’s prompt is silence.
Power Failure
Two televisions blaring
Aquarium filters splashing
Air conditioner rumbling
Ceiling fans rotating
Dishwasher cleansing
Fluorescent light buzzing
Suddenly, the lights go out
Power failure
Silence
I sigh
A clock ticks
Peace reigns
Lights flash on
Cacophony resumes
I appreciate that beautiful photograph which matches nicely that power failure . . . which we actually experienced two nights ago with an unexpected snowfall of 3.8 inches.Lights and cacophony definitely restored!

Wow! This feels early for a snow storm–but what do I know? I live in the desert.

So true! I love it when we lose power – as long as I had enough warning to put got coffee in a thermos and charge my Kindle! 🙂 Then I can sit and read in peace, guilt-free.
